Two optical practices in Wales are celebrating after being recognised as the best of the best in their categories in the Optician Awards on Saturday evening.

Newport won Multiple Practice of the Year and Haverfordwest won the Enhanced Optical Service Award.

Two in a row
Newport Director Craig MacKenzie said: ‘The whole team are delighted! I’m really pleased to be recognised for the way we blend retail optics, shared care enhanced optical services and our dedicated Ophthalmic Diagnostic and Treatment Centre. This is why we won the award. I believe the Newport Specsavers concept is the future for optics, and welcome any Specsavers directors to come and have a look.’

Haverfordwest Ophthalmic Director Andy Britton added: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to win this award. We were up against stiff competition in the form of three independents and, of course, Newport’s awesome effort. This is a real feather in the cap for Specsavers and the cause of affordable eye care for all!’

The win makes it two in a row for both teams, who also triumphed at Specsavers’ Awards for Excellence in November 2016. Haverfordwest won the Excellence in Enhanced Optical Services Award and Newport won a special award for their work in opening the ODTC for people suffering from wet age-related macular degeneration.

Congratulations to all winners on the night and also to the other shortlisted Specsavers candidates who were:

Audiology award

Contact Lens Patient Engagement award

Enhanced Optical Service award

Multiple Practice of the Year
Chelmsley Wood

Optical Assistant Team of the Year

Optician Editor Chris Bennett said: ‘It is a fantastic achievement to make it onto the shortlist. Our finalists and winners are chosen by expert panels of judges. They looked for a passion for optics as well as hard facts. Winning an Optician Award is one of the highest accolades optical professionals, practices and companies can achieve. Congratulations to our winners! Many people count an Optician Award among their most treasured possessions.’
