Meet Anna Burns - Head of Frame Operations
and Supplier Development
What was your background before joining Specsavers?
I worked for Marks and Spencer during and after secondary school, initially in Food, a bit in Clothing and then latterly in the HR and Training department before moving to Specsavers.
Tell us a bit about your career journey at Specsavers?
In my 13 years at Specsavers, my career (and the desks I have sat on) haven't stopped moving! I have benefitted from the growth of the business which has opened up different opportunities for me in a number of different roles and projects in HR (Business Partnering, Projects and Governance and Reward and Policy). These jobs, and my latest have taken me all over the world – from Hungary to Hong Kong and Singapore to Southampton and has kept my work life busy and exciting.
I've recently started a 2 year secondment as Head of Frame Operations and Supplier Development in our Product (Frame) team which is a fantastic opportunity to increase my understanding of the business and use my strengths in an area outside of the HR profession for my ongoing personal and professional development.
How has Specsavers supported your development?
I've been supported in many ways over the years whether this be financially (sponsoring my Masters degree, qualifying as a psychometric tester, presentation, and coaching courses to name a few) or through experiences (working in different cultures, new job opportunities, being involved in exciting and stretching projects globally). The culture at Specsavers is very much about continued development and learning – nothing is off the table if you are willing to work hard, be proactive and take the opportunities that are either presented or available to you.
What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers so far?
Because it is so recent and at the forefront of my mind– I am most proud that I have been given a secondment opportunity in a completely new area of the business – an opportunity I would never have thought possible but that I am loving every minute of. The secondment to date has given me new challenges and a new purpose and energy to the best job I can for the business and continue to develop in my career.
