Meet Rajneet Chani - Credit Control Team Leader

What was your background before joining Specsavers?
Prior to Specsavers, I studied Economics & Business Finance at University and did a student placement with IBM as an Analyst. After graduating I worked for an American energy company as a Commercial Analyst in London. I moved to Nottingham having got married and joined Specsavers shortly after as a temp in the new Hearcare department where audiology billing all started up. I then secured a permanent role within the growing team. After almost 2 years I moved over to Credit Control as a senior admin and have been in the role for the past 2.5 years and am now Team Leader.

In a nutshell, what do you do?
I am responsible for processing all cash for the AQP Hearcare business and recovering any debt from our customers, the NHS on a day to day basis. Dealing with any queries they may have, reconciling statements and responding in a timely manner. I also process cash for the Domicilliary business, Healthcall and ensuring that our partners are correctly paid and any payment discrepancies are resolved.

What does your typical day look like?
Every day is different. The mornings are usually spent updating cash batches, checking and approving transfer requests. The afternoons are spent chasing the NHS for unpaid invoices, resolving any variety of queries, reconciling Healthcall cash, attending any scheduled meetings and any ad hoc projects that require re-prioritising workloads.

What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers so far?
I have been a part of the Hearcare team from day one. I was there from the first ever month of billing as a temp and now I’m bringing the money in as Credit Control Team Leader and sharing my knowledge and growing my own team.

How have you developed?
I have never stopped learning. I have been involved in so many projects and worked with people at different levels and teams within the business. I have worked hard and the move from temp to perm, senior admin and now Team Leader over the last 4 years really shows how my hard work has been recognised and rewarded each step of the way. It has moulded me into the person I am today. For such a large company that is a huge achievement for me and I will continue to work hard to progress through my career here.

What do you love about your job? What is a challenge?
Since becoming Team Leader I have been involved in so many new things such as recruiting new starters, project meetings, training new staff as well as client visits. This is on top of the day to day workload recovering debt from the NHS and supporting my new team, so juggling it all has been the biggest challenge in an attempt to not get behind with the ever growing workload.

Describe the Specsavers culture in three words
Unique, Supportive and Diverse.

What advice would you give someone looking to join Specsavers?
If you work hard and are keen to further your development, Specsavers will work just as hard to support you and make this happen. It’s a great place to work and the people really make it an enjoyable place to work.
