Run your own hearcare business with Specsavers
Matthew talks about his journey to running his own
In a nutshell what do you do?
I run both private and NHS hearing clinics, suggesting, fitting and repairing a wide variety of hearing solutions for a varied customer base. I am currently completing the Specsavers Director development training program, Pathway to eventually run my own store.
What does your typical day look like?
No two days are quite the same. I tend to work from three locations, all of which have their own challenges and rewards. I could spend several hours repairing hearing aids, writing referrals and sorting IT issues. Another day I could be learning about the latest technology, thinking how it could be applied as a solution for the customer. Another day I could be advising on Music protection to band members, percussionists and DJs.
What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers so far?
Being part of a company which is making Hear Care accessible, affordable and available to all.
How have you developed?
I have become more and more certain that I wish to invest in the green blood Specsavers culture and furthermore, I am much more assertive in admitting I am deaf, dealing with the problems as they arise openly and confidently.
What do you love about your job? What is a challenge?
Helping others who are in a similar position to me, whilst seeing the enormous potential Specsavers Hearcare has, given the fantastic infrastructure already in place as a result of the unprecedented success of Optics. The workload can however be needlessly high as Hearcare and Optics are still moulding the potential synergy between the two departments.
Describe the Specsavers culture in three words?
Efficient, Transparent and Competitive.
What advice would you give someone looking to join Specsavers
If you are ambitious and like working in a fast paced environment as part of a varied and committed team…Do it!
