Our aviation team operates two Beechcraft King Air 350i turboprop aircraft, which are hangered at Guernsey airport. With more than 30,000 employees, Specsavers corporate flight department and our pilots provide a regular corporate shuttle service and a vital link between our offices in Guernsey, Southampton and East Midlands, as well as ad-hoc trips across Europe.
The pressurised King Air is equipped with modern ‘glass cockpit’ equipment, it can cruise up to 35,000ft and has the capacity to carry up to 10 passengers (plus luggage).
Flying an average of 30 sectors per week and carrying over 8,000 passengers per year, we’re the first corporate operator in Europe to achieve IS-BAO level 3 accreditation (meaning we’ve been assessed independently and found to operate to the highest standards).
This year we are delighted to be able to offer a new bursary to one Guernsey resident who is a budding pilot starting their flying career.
The winner will be awarded 10 hours of flying a four-seater Piper Warrior aircraft alongside a qualified instructor from Guernsey Flying Training. This should be enough to get you to your first solo flight if you haven’t flown before. If you already have some flying experience, this bursary will help you continue with your training.
As well as 10 hours of flying, you will be mentored by one of our experienced professional pilots and you will receive the prestigious Specsavers Aviation trophy with your name added to those of previous bursary winners.
Second place will receive two hours flying and third place will receive a 45-minute trial lesson, both also at Guernsey Flying Training in a Piper Warrior.
Those who make it past the initial selection process will be invited to attend a more rigorous selection day at the Specsavers office in Guernsey in early July. The day will involve various stages including group exercises and individual interviews. All who attend will gain invaluable experience and insight into how to prepare for any future aviation interviews.
