Since joining Specsavers back in 1991, Store Director Jason Williams’ career has gone from strength to strength. Read his story here:
What made you decide to join Specsavers?
It was a long time ago now - I first joined Specsavers in 1991! At the time,
I think it was the values that the brand stands for that attracted me:
“To passionately provide best value eye care to everyone, simply, clearly and consistently, exceeding customer expectations every time.”
How has the store supported you since you joined? I originally joined as a
newly-qualified Dispensing Optician. I then went on to train as a Contact Lens Optician with Specsavers, then moved on to a Store Manager position, before ultimately progressing to become Store Director in 2003.
Where do you think you make a real difference to someone's day?
I’d like to think that I am very approachable as a Store Director. My door is always open to any colleague who wants to speak to me about anything, and I am very passionate and supportive about people development.
How does the Newport store support the local community?
We have always been passionate about supporting local charities. We try to do something different for charity each month. We mix this up a little between national charities, such as Red Nose Day, and very local ones, such as the Lucy Ellis Foundation and The Wallich.
What’s your favourite thing about working on the shop floor?
I just love the interaction with patients. Most people come to us with a problem. If we can help them with that problem, most are very appreciative. This gives me such a good feeling inside.
In regards to training and development, what skills have you learnt since starting at Specsavers?
As well as the obvious Contact Lens training, I have also benefitted from a lot of Management and Leadership training and courses along the way.
What’s been your proudest moment at Specsavers so far?
There have been lots of successes along the way, but the store winning an award at the National ‘Optician Awards’ in 2017 has to be the pinnacle.

What advice would you give someone looking to join Specsavers?
