Meet Sarah our Product Manager for the Data Team
What was your background before joining Specsavers?
I worked at Old Mutual International in their IT department as a software tester.
How long have you been Specsavers?
In a nutshell, what do you do?
For the past 6 months I have been working as a product owner for the Technology Group data team. Basically, it’s a project manager specialising in agile methodology managing data analytics projects.
What does your typical day look like?
No day is ever the same, but they usually involve team stand ups, writing up business requirement documents, providing subject matter expertise to various people across different departments and producing project plans. I have been lucky enough to have worked across IT retail, corporate and finance over my 21 years with the business so I can help out and provide advice to most teams within the business.
What makes you most proud of your time at Specsavers so far?
I have quite a few things I’m proud of but the most recent is that I project managed the IT/Data team side of the Clinical Outcome Report for the store partners.
How has Specsavers supported your development?
Specsavers has supported me in so many of ways - from paying for training courses so I could become technically competent at my job, to allowing me to study for an NVQ Level 3 in supporting IT. They enabled me to take 5 months paid maternity leave when I had both my children and allowed me to come back to work part-time. I have since moved back to working full-time.
What do you love about your job?
That I am contributing to saving people’s sight, hearing and sometimes even their lives.
Describe the Specsavers culture in three words:
Family, Entrepreneurial and Caring.
What advice would you give someone looking to join Specsavers?
Be yourself and show them what you are passionate about.
